How we use your personal data and on what legal basis

We use your personal data for the purposes listed below. The legal basis from Article 6 GDPR is stated for each purpose.

  • Providing the Services and fulfilling your order (creating and managing accounts, processing payments, handling orders, shipping, returns and exchanges, customer service). Legal basis: performance of the contract.
  • Improving and personalizing the Services (remembering preferences, making recommendations, improving the webshop). Legal basis: legitimate interest, and where required, your consent.
  • Marketing and advertising (emails, messages, and personalized ads). Legal basis: your consent, or our legitimate interest to inform existing customers about similar products, with an opt-out option in every message.
  • Security and fraud prevention (verifying accounts, secure payment, detecting and preventing fraudulent or unsafe activities). Legal basis: legitimate interest and legal obligation.

  • Legal reasons (complying with the law, responding to valid legal requests, enforcing our terms). Legal basis: legal obligation and legitimate interest.

If you create login credentials, you are responsible for keeping them secure. Do not share your username and password with anyone.

How we share personal data

We may share your personal data with:

  • Shopify and other service providers who perform tasks on our behalf, such as IT management, payment processing, data analysis, customer service, cloud storage, fulfillment, and shipping;
  • Business and marketing partners, to enable marketing and advertising. For example, we use Shopify and advertising platforms to show personalized ads based on your activities with various merchants and websites. Depending on where you live, you can opt out of this;
  • External parties at your request or with your consent, for example for shipping or when using social media widgets or login integrations;
  • Our affiliated companies within our corporate group;
  • In connection with a business transaction (such as a merger or bankruptcy), to comply with legal obligations, enforce our terms, and protect the rights of ourselves or others.

We do not sell your personal data in the usual sense of the word. To the extent that showing personalized ads is considered "selling" or "sharing" under certain laws, you can opt out as described below.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the webshop, remember your preferences, analyze usage, and show relevant advertisements. A cookie is a small file placed on your device.

We distinguish the following categories:

  • Necessary cookies. Required for the webshop to function, for example for the shopping cart, checkout, security, and language or currency selection. No consent is needed for these.
  • Functional cookies. Remember your preferences and settings to offer you a smoother experience.
  • Analytical cookies. Provide us insight into how visitors use the webshop so we can improve it.
  • Marketing and advertising cookies. Used to show you personalized ads on our and other websites.

We only place non-essential cookies (functional as legally required, analytical, and marketing) after you have given consent via our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the cookie settings on our website, and manage or delete cookies via your browser settings. For more information on managing and deleting cookies per device, please visit the information page of the Dutch Data Protection Authority: https://autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl/themas/internet-slimme-apparaten/cookies. Disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the webshop.

If you visit our website with the Global Privacy Control (GPC) opt-out signal enabled, we automatically treat this, depending on where you live, as a request to opt out of data sharing for targeted advertising with the browser and device you are using. More information: https://globalprivacycontrol.org/. Apart from GPC, we do not recognize other "Do Not Track" signals.

Third-party services and cookies we use

To operate, analyze, and market the webshop, we use services from third parties. These parties may place cookies or similar technologies and process personal data according to their own privacy policies. Analytical and marketing services are only loaded after you have given consent via our cookie banner.

  • Shopify (necessary and functional): our webshop and payment platform, needed for the shopping cart, checkout, and security.
  • Klaviyo (functional and marketing): our platform for email and marketing, connected to Shopify. We use it to send order confirmations and newsletters and to make our communication more relevant.
  • Google Analytics (analytical): gives us insight into how visitors use the webshop so we can improve it.
  • Google Tag Manager (functional): manages the loading of the above-mentioned scripts and tags on the website.
  • Meta Pixel (marketing): measures the results of our ads on Facebook and Instagram and helps us show relevant ads. For reliable and careful data transfer, we use server-side tracking via WeTracked.
  • TikTok Pixel (marketing): measures the results of our ads on TikTok and helps us show relevant ads.

Some of these services may process personal data outside the European Economic Area. In that case, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. See also the International Transfer section below.

The exact cookies used at any given time can be found in our cookie banner or the cookie settings screen on the website.

Relationship with Shopify

The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal data about your access to and use of the Services to provide and improve the Services. Information you submit may be transmitted to and shared with Shopify and third parties who may be located in countries other than where you live. Additionally, we use certain enhanced features of Shopify that include data from your interactions with our store, other merchants, and Shopify. In those cases, Shopify is responsible for processing that personal data. More information can be found in Shopify’s privacy policy at https://privacy.shopify.com.

Websites and links of third parties

The Services may contain links to websites or platforms of third parties. If you follow a link to a site not managed by us, please review their privacy and security policies. We are not responsible for the privacy or security of those sites or the accuracy of their information. Information you share in public or semi-public places, including third-party social media, may be viewed by others.

Children’s data

The Services are not intended for use by children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age at which valid consent can be given in your jurisdiction (16 years in the Netherlands). If you are a parent or guardian of a child who has provided us with personal data, please contact us using the details below, and we will delete it. We are not aware of sharing or selling personal data of persons under 16 years.

Security and retention periods

No security measure is completely foolproof, and we cannot guarantee perfect security. Therefore, do not send sensitive or confidential data via insecure channels.

We do not retain your personal data longer than necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as legally required. For reference:

  • Order and transaction data is retained as long as necessary to fulfill the agreement and thereafter for the statutory tax retention period, which in the Netherlands is seven years.
  • Account data is retained as long as your account is active, and thereafter as needed or legally required.
  • Marketing data is retained until you opt out or withdraw your consent.
  • Customer service communications are retained as long as necessary to handle your inquiry and any follow-up questions.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the rights listed below. These rights are not absolute and may be limited in certain cases as permitted by law.

  • Right to access: you can request which personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to deletion: you can request the deletion of your personal data.
  • Right to correction: you can request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to data portability: you can receive a copy of your data and request its transfer under certain circumstances.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing for targeted advertising: you can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your data for targeted advertising.
  • Communication preferences: you can unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails. We may still send you non-promotional messages, for example about your account or orders.

If you live in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you also have:

  • Right to object and restrict: you can ask us to stop or limit certain processing.
  • Right to withdraw consent: when we rely on consent, you can withdraw it. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

You can exercise these rights through the Services where indicated, or by contacting us using the details below. We do not discriminate against you when you exercise a right. We may verify your identity before processing your request, in a manner proportionate to the request. We respond within one month of receiving your request. If a request is complex or involves multiple requests, this period may be extended by two months; in that case, we will inform you within one month.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we process your personal data, please contact us first using the details below. You also have the right to file a complaint with your local data protection authority. For the Netherlands, this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl). Residents of other EEA countries can contact their national authority; residents of the United Kingdom can contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

International transfer

We may transfer, store, and process your personal data outside the country where you live. When transferring data outside the EEA or the United Kingdom, we rely on recognized safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or equivalent provisions from the UK’s competent authority, unless the data is transferred to a country with an adequate level of protection.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised version on this website and update the "Last updated" date.
